TOPIC: New Water Reclamation District projects
Mr. Lanyon will present the results of the recent master planning studies for the District's three large water reclamation plants, progress in the completion of the two reservoirs for temporary storage of combined sewer overflow, a financial forecast for the capital improvement program and some initiatives in the development of wetlands and use of native prairie landscaping.
Mr. Lanyon is a 43-year career employee with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (District), and is presently General Superintendent, managing the day-to-day operations, 2100 employees and an annual budget of approximately $1 billion. Previously he was Director of Research and Development (R&D) for seven years.
The District collects and treats wastewater from more than five million people in Cook County and the industrial equivalent of another four million people. The District also provides storm water management and other related services to protect the water environment.
Among his awards, Mr. Lanyon received the American Society of Civil Engineer’s National Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award in 1999 and Distinguished Alumnus of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2003. He is also a past President of the Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and holds Bachelors and Masters of Civil Engineering degrees from the UIUC. He has been involved in a variety of technical activities for ASCE, the Water Environment Federation and the National Association of Clean Water Agencies.
Mr. Lanyon served on the Evanston Public Library Board of Directors from 1984 through 1989 and one term as Alderman of the 8th Ward on the Evanston City Council from 1989 through 1993.
A business meeting will precede the technical presentation. Coffee and pastries will be served during the intermission.

RECOGNITION DINNER DANCE. On November 4th, 2006 to commemorate our 72 years of service to Polonia, the Polish American Engineers Association sponsored a Recognition Dinner Dance. This year we honored three members of our organization: Mrs. Danuta Szymulanski, P.E., Mr. Andrew Czyszczon, P.E. and Dr. Jan S. Plachta P.E., S.E. who have collectively contributed over 80 years of service to PAEA and the engineering profession. In addition we recognized Ms. Idalia Blaszczyk for providing communication support to PAEA, Mr. Walter Linzing for his continuous support of PAEA and Mr. Wojciech Madeyski AIA for his achievements in architecture. The Banquet was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1445 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, IL. This event will be summarized during this meeting.
POLACY RAZEM – this is a title of a Seminar organized by Polish Engineers in Vienna, Austria between 16-18 November 2006. Main theme of this conference is the “Renewable Sources of Energy”. Seminar will be attended by representatives of various Polish Engineering Associations from France, Great Britain, Lithuania, Poland and United States. Our President, Michael Niedzinski will be giving a power point presentation about P.A.E.A. Jan Plachta will be giving a talk on the American Bridges of Ralph Modjeski.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS FOUNDATION presents a free talk on Tall Buildings Wind Study, on November 7, 2006. Structural Engineers Association of Illinois invites to a dinner meeting with Robert Halverson who will be discussing the Moscow Tower project.
